Build a Commander deck from one binder — or one box
A shoebox of bulk, a trade binder, the cards from your last prerelease: choose the binder, pick a commander, and Commandarium builds the deck from those cards alone.
From a box to a deck in three steps
- Put the box in a binder. Scan it into a new binder, or import a CSV with a binder column (how, below).
- Start the deck from the binder. Open the binder and tap New deck (on a phone: ··· → New deck from this binder). Build from is already set to it — or pick the binder there yourself.
- Pick a commander. It can come from anywhere in your collection — or be one you don’t own yet. Commandarium builds the other 99 from the binder.
Get the box into a binder
Scan it
Scan the stack with the card scanner, then Add to → Binder and type a new binder’s name — the box’s name. Live scan takes each card as soon as it is still.
Import it
ManaBox and Moxfield exports carry a binder column, and it becomes a binder in Commandarium. In any other CSV, add a column named Binder with the box’s name in every row.
Move cards you have
Already in your collection? Tap Select, pick the cards and Move to… a binder — or filter the collection first and tap All shown to pick every card on screen.
What the deck is built from
- The 99 come from that binder — every legal card in your commander’s colors is a candidate, and the best ones for this commander win.
- Basic lands are added as needed, for free, so a box without lands still gets a full mana base, split by the colors the spells need.
- What the box can’t fill goes on the shopping list. The deck is always a full, legal 100. A card you own in another binder is marked as owned, not as one to buy.
- For a pure box deck, choose My cards first. Every slot the binder can fill, it fills; only the rest is bought. My cards + key buys swaps in a card to buy where this commander’s decks clearly play something better.
The role counts show what the box is short on — Removal 5/8 means three more. Fill the gap from your other binders with Add cards → My collection, or let the shopping list do it.
Boxes worth building from
- A bulk box. Commons and uncommons build better Commander decks than you would think — the builder finds the synergy you would miss.
- A prerelease or sealed pool. Keep the cards together as a binder and turn them into a casual deck afterwards.
- A tribal binder. All your Elves, Goblins or Dragons in one place: pick the matching commander and the tribe is the deck.
- A box challenge. Everyone in your playgroup builds from one box of their own and the decks meet at the table — a cheap, even format. Brackets keep it fair: brackets explained.
Build from one binder
Open the binder, tap New deck, pick a commander — the deck takes under a minute.
Open CommandariumQuestions
Does the commander have to be in the binder?
No. Your own legendary creatures are offered first, from any binder, and you can also build around a commander you don’t own — it then heads the shopping list.
What if the binder has too few cards?
The deck is still a full 100: basic lands make up the mana base, and the slots the binder cannot fill get the best cards to buy, marked as such. Nothing is padded with random cards.
Does Sol Ring always go in?
Sol Ring, Arcane Signet and Command Tower are always part of the deck — from your collection if you own them, otherwise on the shopping list.
Can I build from cards that are in no binder?
Move them into a binder first: open Unsorted, tap Select, then All shown and Move to…, and name a new binder.
Is it free?
Yes. Free accounts and guests can keep 5 decks and 5 binders; the optional Plus subscription removes the limits and the ads.
